Role and responsibilities of the principal spokesperson of the NMC

The Chief Executive and Registrar is Jackie Smith.

Role and responsibilities

Accountable to the Council, the Chief Executive and Registrar is responsible for leading and managing the NMC’s professional, business and financial affairs.

The principal spokesperson for the NMC on a day-to-day basis, the Chief Executive and Registrar has an influencing and ambassadorial role at both national and international levels. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Council and as the accountable officer of the NMC, the Chief Executive and Registrar has a statutory responsibility for the services of the NMC.

The Chief Executive and Registrar is also responsible for determining all applications for admission or readmission to the register, together with all applications for renewal of registration. As Registrar, he oversees the registration process, and is responsible for determining all applications for admission or readmission to the register, together with all applications for renewal of registration.
