Q+A about the new George Street office
Cathy Cairns, Assistant Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland Affairs, answers the most frequently asked questions about our new office in George Street, Edinburgh.

I'm Cathy Cairns, the Assistant Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland Affairs.
This is a new role which began in January 2011, tasked with improving NMC understanding of the influences that shape health and social care in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
I am working on developing strong relationships with senior level civil servants, educators, employers and professional bodies and to ensure that NMC policy takes into account the diverse needs of nurses, midwives, patients and the public in both countries.
I am based in the new office in Scotland, which allows for regular travel to Northern Ireland.
What is the Edinburgh office for?

If you want to observe a fitness to practise hearing, read our section on attending a hearing.
