Weekly review: CHRE review and news from hearings
Last week, the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE) announced the terms of reference for their strategic review of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Struck off for not respecting patient dignity
The Manchester Evening News reported on Mary Pemberton, who cut off a dementia suffering patient’s plait after being warned it was against the woman’s cultural beliefs.
A panel struck off Pemberton for failing to respect the patient's dignity, and also found her guilty of dishonesty for not disclosing she had been dismissed by a previous employer.

The Argus in Brighton covered the case of Kenneth Brady, a nurse and manager of The Progress Care Home Worthing, struck off for his comments on Facebook.
Brady was drunk when he assaulted a member of the public, and then later boasted about his actions on the social networking site leading to an investigation by the NMC.

Nurse struck off for theft
The Sheffield Star reports a nurse was struck off for stealing food and drink supplies from her work. Sian Sheeran also admitted taking medicines from BMI Thornbury Hospital.
Fitness to Practise news
The Council heard 39 cases last week issuing:
- 4 interim conditions of practice orders
- 19 interim suspension orders
- 2 suspension orders
- 11 striking off orders
