Frequently asked questions

Adaptation and aptitude testing FAQs

Here is a list of frequently asked questions regarding the adaptation and aptitude test.

I would like to apply for a period of adaptation, what do I do next?

For children’s nursing adaptation programmes please contact one of the AEIs listed here who will inform you of the course details and their application process. For adult nursing/midwifery adaptation programmes please go here: http://www.nmc-uk.org/Registration/Joining-the-register/Trained-in-the-EU-or-EEA/

I am a children’s nurse requiring a compensation measure, how can I apply for an aptitude test?

Please contact euteam@nmc-uk.org to apply for an aptitude test informing us of your name, address and PRN. NMC will then confirm which assessments of the test you will be required to take and provide details of how to apply for the aptitude test.

I am an adult nurse or midwife requiring a compensation measure, how can I apply for an aptitude test?

You cannot apply for an aptitude test at the moment. We are working with the relevant government departments to deliver the required regulatory changes and expect to be able to offer aptitude tests for adult nurses and midwives from December 2011. We will write to you again to advise you on progress and inform you of the date which you can apply for an aptitude test.

My NMC decision letter expires before the start date of my adaptation programme. Can I still go ahead with my adaptation programme?

No, you will not be able to start your adaptation programme unless you re-apply to the NMC for a new assessment. Download an application form at: http://www.nmc-uk.org/Registration/Joining-the-register/Trained-in-the-EU-or-EEA/

My NMC decision letter expires before I will be able to complete all elements of the aptitude test. Will I still be accepted on to the register?

No. You will need to re-apply to the NMC for a new assessment. Download an application form at: http://www.nmc-uk.org/Registration/Joining-the-register/Trained-in-the-EU-or-EEA/
