Planning to work in the European Union (EU) or an EEA member state
Information about applying for an EU verification certificate
Planning to work in another EU/EEA country as a nurse or midwifeAre you a registered nurse or midwife wising to relocate to an EU/EEA member state to work? You may be entitled to have your qualification recognised as an EU member through the EU Directive 2005/36 (the directive).
The directive details how EU member states recognise the professional qualifications of those wanting to relocate and what should be considered in the decision making process.
Registering your qualification
In order to register your qualification in an EU member state, you will need to register with the relevant licensing or registration authority in that country/state. In order to assist the recognition process, member states may request a certificate of current professional status, certificate of compliance or simply a certificate verifying your professional status as a nurse/midwife with the NMC. We refer to this as a verification certificate.
Fill in the EU verification certificate form to request an application pack for a certificate.
Please also include any specific information related to your professional status that you want to include in your verification certificate (please refer to routes to recognition for further information).
When application pack is received, please complete the application form and return together with the £34 fee. If you have been given a verification form by a licensing board/registration authority, please enclose with the form and fee when returning the application.
On the application form you will be given the option to request up to five verification certificates to be sent to different authorities. Further requests made after this point will require an additional fee.
When we have processed your application and fee, we will issue your verification certificate within 15 days. Please note, processing will take longer if we need to obtain employment references to support your request.
