Overseas nurses and midwives

In 2008 over 2000 nurses and midwives from outside the EEA registered with the NMC, enabling them to work in the UK. The Overseas department at the NMC deals with all enquiries regarding overseas applications and registrations.

Please note that in order to apply for registration you must hold full and active registration as a nurse or midwife in your home country.

If you received your training outside the EEA, and have not been registered and practised in another EU Member State for three years, please follow our overseas route.

This applies equally to overseas trained nurses and midwives who hold EU nationality or EC Treaty Rights.
