Our Joint Equality Scheme
We are fully and wholly committed to promoting equality and diversity, our Joint Equality Scheme demonstrates our approach to this in everything we do:
- as a public body - committed to safeguarding the public
- as a regulator - setting and maintaining standards for nurses and midwives
- as an employer - in our recruitment and employment practices.
The scheme provides a framework detailing our equality and diversity objectives which ensure we operate within a modern equal opportunities environment, free from all forms of discrimination.
It is underpinned by an action plan detailing how, and by when, individual departments are contributing to meeting the organisation-wide objectives.
Joint Equality Scheme
The scheme [PDF] was formally approved in November 2009 by the Council, and replaces our existing single ‘strand’ equality schemes.
An easy read [PDF] version of the scheme is also available.
Joint Equality Scheme Action Plan
The action plan [PDF] was reviewed by the Business Planning and Governance Committee in December 2009, and approved by the Executive Management Board.
The action plan highlights work throughout the organisation helping us meet our equality duties. It will be used to demonstrate our progress meeting aims and objectives of the Joint Equality Scheme.
