Current position and background
David is a lay member of the General Optical Council (GOC) and chair of its Education Committee involved with lay people, educationalists and professionals in developing optometrist training programmes and accreditation standards.
He also chaired GOC working groups for accrediting independent prescribing courses and reviewing standards for registration.
Since his retirement in 1997 from a teaching career in schools and higher education institutes, ending in the role of pro vice chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University, he combined educational and training work as a consultant to higher education institutions and the Teacher Training Agency.
David has served on several national committees, including the disciplinary panel of the GOC and the Committee for National Academic Awards.
