Specialist Community Public Health Nursing

All specialist community public health nurses are expected to demonstrate high standards of proficiency, as set out in Standards of proficiency for specialist community public health nurses 2004 [PDF]

The specialist community public health nurse adviser helps to advise and support on standards, education and practice. There are currently over 27,000 practitioners on the specialist community public health nursing part of the NMC Register.

Specialist community public health nurses practice in various service areas, for example

  • health visiting
  • occupational health
  • school nursing
  • sexual health
  • health protection or family health nursing (Scotland)
