Interprofessional work with colleagues

The General Social Care Council (GSCC), the General Teaching Council for England (GTC), and the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) produced a working draft of the statement of values. They undertook this work in recognition of their responsibility for effective practice in their sectors, for which they are regulators.

In 2004 the GSCC, GTC and NMC held events for practitioners to discuss these changes and to the challenges of collaborative working. The practitioners said that they would feel more confident in their integrated work if they were supported to develop, test and speak about shared values as a basis for their work with children.

The statement was publicly available for comment during Spring 2007 and was further refined following this period. Many organisations have told us they support the creation of the statement and believe it should be promoted as widely as possible.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has publicly welcomed the statement as a resource to support integrated working (Building Brighter Futures: next steps for the children’s workforce, DCSF, 2008).

The statement is a resource for anyone who works with children and young people and for those who train children’s practitioners across the UK.
