Kate Brintworth appointed as Chief Midwifery Officer

Published on 19 May 2023

The NMC has congratulated Kate Brintworth, currently the Regional Chief Midwife for London, on her appointment as the new Chief Midwifery Officer for England

Andrea Sutcliffe, NMC Chief Executive and Registrar, said:

“I’d like to offer my warmest congratulations to Kate on her appointment to this important leadership role, which is vital to supporting the health and wellbeing of women, babies and families across England.

“At the NMC we’re committed to working with our partners to address safety and inequalities within maternity services in England, and to deliver sustainable improvements across all four nations for the benefit of people using services.

“Our relationship with the Chief Midwifery Officer is crucial as we work collaboratively to deliver this positive change, and to ensure people using services receive the person-centred care they have a right to expect. I know I speak for many colleagues at the NMC when I say we look forward to working closely with Kate as she builds on the great legacy of the first Chief Midwifery Officer, Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent.”
