NMC responds to Skills for Care findings on the adult social care workforce

We’ve responded to the Skills for Care’s latest report, The Size and Structure of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce in England.
Andrea Sutcliffe, NMC Chief Executive and Registrar, said:
"The adult social care workforce is a lifeline for people and communities across the UK. This welcome report from Skills for Care shows that turnover remains too high. We know many social care nurses feel undervalued for their contributions to people’s health and wellbeing, and this must be addressed to improve retention.
“The fact that social care is now so reliant on international recruitment also means it’s vital that employers and leaders create inclusive, anti-racist cultures that support all professionals to thrive and deliver the best care they can for people.
“A long term workforce plan for social care is needed now more than ever, and it’s vital this is not overlooked.”
