NMC thanks Professor Alex McMahon for time as Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Scotland has announced that he will be retiring in April 2024.
Andrea Sutcliffe, NMC Chief Executive and Registrar, said:
“On behalf of the NMC, I’d like to express my sincere thanks and best wishes to Alex in his final months in post ahead of retiring next year. We are incredibly grateful for his outstanding leadership of nurses and midwives in Scotland, particularly during such a challenging time for professionals, as well as his support for the NMC as a key partner.
“Alex’s work on the Nursing and Midwifery Taskforce at a critical time for professionals in Scotland will leave a lasting legacy encouraging people to join the professions and supporting nurses and midwives to thrive, develop and continue in their careers.
“We’ve greatly valued his insight and advice to ensure developments impacting professionals in Scotland are heard, understood, and reflected in our work. We look forward to continuing this cooperative relationship with the next Chief Nursing Officer and colleagues in the Scottish Government.”
